After Paws was created to support pet parents through one of the most heartbreaking experiences—saying goodbye to a beloved animal companion.

The bond we share with our pets is deep, unconditional, and often life-shaping. When that bond is broken by loss, the grief can feel overwhelming, isolating, and misunderstood. At After Paws, you don’t have to navigate that pain alone.

I’m Veronica DeLeon, a certified pet grief counselor and the heart behind After Paws. I provide compassionate, non-judgmental support for individuals and families grieving the loss of a pet—whether that loss is recent, anticipated, or long past.

My Approach

Grief looks different for everyone. There is no timeline, no “right way,” and no need to minimize your pain.

At After Paws, sessions are:

  • Gentle and client-led
  • Focused on honoring your unique bond
  • Grounded in emotional support, reflection, and coping tools
  • A safe space where your grief is validated

My role is not to diagnose or treat mental health conditions, but to walk beside you as a compassionate guide—helping you process emotions, find meaning, and carry your pet’s memory forward with love.

Who I Support

After Paws is here for:

  • Individuals grieving the loss of a dog, cat, or other beloved pet
  • Those facing anticipatory grief before an expected loss
  • Families and children navigating pet loss together
  • Pet parents who feel their grief has gone unrecognized or dismissed

No matter where you are in your journey, your feelings matter here.

Why After Paws Exists

Too often, pet loss is minimized with phrases like “it was just a dog” or “you can get another one.” But anyone who has loved an animal knows the truth—pets are family.

After Paws exists to give pet grief the respect, space, and compassion it deserves.

Important Note

After Paws provides non-clinical grief support and is not a substitute for licensed therapy, medical care, or crisis services. If you are experiencing thoughts of self-harm or are in crisis, please seek immediate professional support or call 988 in the U.S.

You Are Not Alone

If you’re grieving, questioning, remembering, or simply needing someone who understands—After Paws is here for you.
